One of the more interesting elements of this film is the natural horror, witchcraft, and religion angle. If you’re not in it for anything else, that will grab you and draw you in. Buckley and Mescal obviously give outstanding performances; Mescal, in particular, has what many (not all) of his peers are after. The theatre nerds will also love this, especially if they’ve ever deeply studied Shakespearean text. All in all, a tender and moving reflection on the life of this family, but Max Richter will do time for his recycling of the final needle drop.
