I appreciate that they had to state that Adrien Brody’s character was ugly right from the beginning because they know how hot he is. This film was hornier than anticipated and that was the first sign. Putting that aside, Brody gives a world class performance that made me forget he was acting. The scale and vision demonstrated throughout the film really helps to build up the stakes of the story and had me ready to watch for another 3.5 hours at least! I don’t know if its stance on Israel is as clear as maybe it needs to be, given the participants in the making of this film. That said, the film isn’t so much about that and I think that what it is about is so much more broadly human and chilling: what is the price of our dignity, pride, and success and where do those costs intersect?
