A spiritual 5-star film in that it’s fun and engaging, throughout. However, one cannot in good faith say that it’s a film of quality. In the wake of incredibly real hypersurveillance, especially at concerts, the story seems grounded in reality. However, none of the characters interact with a real world. The dialogue is often hyperbolic and borderline nonsensical, giving a sense of caricature to the entire plot. It’s rather unfortunate, considering the music is a bop. And isn’t that what this film is a vehicle for, anyway? Cheers to Josh Hartnett’s performance, though — uncannily wicked, especially in the last few minutes.
