I don’t think the average person offering commentary on this really has the range for the discussion. Because it’s not just about the politics of whose story gets told under the patriarchy, but also the advent of social media technology and its impact on how we communicate and shape community. Stories like this one are a function of how ingrained patriarchy is in the development of these platforms and, at this point, that should be more the point of discussion. We need to root out this bias at the source and, frankly, that source is not really children. There have been bullies and incels and everything between, within, and without those groups for a long time. It is the proliferation of communication and community-building patterns that lead to violence, particularly misogyny-driven violence, that is at issue. Nevertheless, this show was well-acted and the one-take approach for each episode felt like a marvel, rather than a gimmick. If anything, my wish may have been for a couple more episodes exploring some points before and after the story that was presented, to provide deeper context that feels necessary to address this topic.
