An amazing story that is so focused on the particular torture of a justice system that works as it is designed, which is to say to not provide justice. While the inciting incident of this film is a rape, I admire Shiori for documenting the Japanese justice system, rather than herself; that awareness made all the difference here. In many way, she de-centers her case in composing the work and that sacrifice paid off, as her bravery did in her case. Meticulous and daring journalism and I hope we’ve not the seen the last from her, in that regard.
