I couldn’t look away, even though I wasn’t sure what I was looking at for most of this one. The stories were wonderfully offbeat and absurd, generating fun and interesting performances. That said, the bottom line is that a film has to be more than engaging to be great. All the elements of a great film are present, but Lanthimos continues to miss the mark on assembly. Given his weakness, in that regard, I thought the triptych setup would help. I fear it only made the weakness more obvious. Willem and Jesse should’ve kissed more.
