This was life-changing to me. I grew up on Prince’s sounds, but not really his visuals. Insofar as that’s true, his cult of personality was definitely crafted around his sexiness and sexuality, but I truly underestimated the levels at which those both operate. I’ve never been sadder and hornier in a theater and I’ve never been so earnestly moved by such a campy work. Seeing this has recontextualized so much of my favorite work for the better.
