A great reminder of why art that is necessary and urgent is necessary and urgent. I would have preferred that this film avoided “nigga” discourse. Thankfully, I was too preoccupied with wondering how many Black men would be given permission to have emotion after this film to worry too much about woke politics. Theatermaking is such a big part of me and this was the realest representation of what it can look like. And I saw the realest version of me reflected in the men of this story.
