My biggest regret is that I didn’t see this high. With stunning visuals that feel like an evolution of Miyazaki’s style, this film misses no beats in delivering a classic Miyazaki narrative. At different times hysterical, heartbreaking, and downright creepy, this is one with far more rewatch value than some of its predecessors. Its exploration of the ways in which we seek to order our world, especially through time, is something I’ll be thinking about for a while. Fuck the eponymous heron, to be honest — gave me the willies from the jump. And the parakeets…
