I love arts, culture, and fashion! There is so much to chew on in this sequel that it makes me question the function of its predecessor. That said, it could not exist without its maker. Not only are all the nods enjoyable without being over the top (a rare feat in a major sequel), but the characters feel even more developed, their lives lived in. There’s a richness to how the film depicts the impact of technology and capitalism on the creative world while also balancing the general impact of time passing and societal change. Nobody works better with this material than Meryl; this Miranda is both familiar and off her center as we know her and that doesn’t really change over the course of the film. And isn’t that what it’s like to lead in a dying industry right now.
