The world is burning and Almodóvar does not want to stick around to watch. And I get that. The blocking and cinematography felt engaged and the performances felt perfectly “normal,” by which I mean the characters were having incredibly normal borderline emotionless responses to a traumatic series of events. Where the emotion seeps out is so much more powerful to witness because of that.
