I enjoyed most of this season, but I still need them to pick up the pace. The stakes seem appropriately set, but then the characters are not set up to action on them in any meaningful way. Or at least the audience does not see enough of those actions. The scene with Rhaenyra and Alicent in the sept, revealing how much is misunderstood between them, sticks out. As does the fourth episode. Melys and Rhaenys forever.

Overall, an improvement over last season. But it continues to feel like setup for a final season that won’t actually be worth it. I’m concerned that we’ve lost the idea that the actual politics and palace intrigue is also what made the original series so good. And, ultimately, I don’t think I like sitting in Rhaenyra’s POV for this long. This show doesn’t really invest in so many of the other characters and weirdly that fact is mirrored in Baela’s quip at Rhaneyra in the finale.

EOS3 Power Ranking:

1. Rhaenyra 2. Daemon 3. Aegon 4. The bastards (no shade) 5. Baela 6. Aemond 7. Rhaena 8. Alicent 9. Gwayne 10. Joffrey

Episode notes

  • E1 · Salt and Sea, Fire and BloodJun 22, 2026

Like watching a train crash in slow-mo. Something felt not as rich in the battle look and feel, but the choreography is there. Gotta listen to your mother, kids!

  • E2 · Queen's LandingJun 29, 2026

There’s some pacing mismatch going on between the plot and the performances, but I’m glad to finally be in the heart of the series.

  • E3 · Rhaenyra TriumphantJul 6, 2026

Corlys snapped! I cannot believe they have Jace serving from the grave. It feels like the chess pieces are finally in an interesting position on the board.

  • E4 · TumbletonJul 12, 2026

Ormund Hightower is terrifying. Seeing the dead dragons was depressing for a Sunday evening.

  • E5 · Unbowed and UnbentJul 19, 2026

A bit of a sleepy episode to me, but the last 10 minutes had motion!

  • E6 · Faceless MenJul 27, 2026

I used to pray for times like this!

  • E7 · The Dragon in WinterAug 3, 2026

    The girls are fighting!

  • E8 · The Treasons at TumbletonAug 10, 2026

A little flat for me, after all the build up. And I think the muting is intentional, but I just don’t think that intention is working. Tom Glynn-Carney shook the table, though.
